JEREZ DE LA FRONTERA, Spain – Reigning MotoGP champion Marc Marquez has been declared fit to ride two days after undergoing surgery on a fractured right humerus.

Marquez passed his fitness test Thursday after arriving at Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto following a hospital stay. Round two of the MotoGP season is scheduled for Sunday.

The Repsol Honda rider crashed late in Sunday’s MotoGP opener at Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto after a spirited drive through the field after nearly crashing in the opening laps of the event.

The crash left Marquez with a broken right humerus. He was taken to Barcelona, Spain, to Hospital Universitari Dexeus to repair the injury. A titanium plate was installed to help repair the damage.

Marquez has won six of the last seven MotoGP championships, earning 56 victories between 2013 and ’19.
